After a short break in June, we’re back with another issue of MMOCO! In this issue, we’ll be looking at a new area and storyline for Black Desert Online, a delay for New World’s launch, and a month-long event for Defiance and Defiance 2050. Let’s jump in!
BDO Adds Papua Crinea Island and Storyline
At the end of June, Black Desert Online received a new area and storyline for players to explore. To begin the main questline, players will have to have a level 58+ character and become a member of the Lamute Gang by accepting and completing the “[Papua Crinea] An Amazing Gift Just for You” quest. Upon completion, you will receive the Lamute Gang's Adventure Journal, divided into Grándiha, Papu, and Otter chapters.
Progressing through the questline will lead you to the Papua Crinea island where characters will need to transform into adorable Papus or Otters through use of temporary transformation scrolls. Completing books in the adventure journal will grant players permanent transformation scrolls, meaning you’ll be able to transform into a Papu or Otter at will! In addition, there are multiple Papu or Otter combatants, all with their own sets of skills, that characters can transform into, making for some interesting party opportunities. There are also several Otter and Papu titles to earn as well.

New World Delayed Until 2021
While upcoming New World MMO, from Amazon Game Studios was scheduled to be released on August 25, 2020, Studio Director Rich Lawrence has announced it will be delayed until 2021. Siting Alpha player feedback, Lawrence mentioned intents to expand mid-game and end-game content. He also mentioned that the studio wants to ensure the quality and longevity of the game. The final beta test and subsequent launch has now been slotted for Spring 2021.
For players who participated in the Alpha, signed up for the Beta, and pre-ordered the game, a special opportunity will be granted: a short-term window in which to play the full game in its current state starting on August 25. Emails will be sent out to those eligible with more details.
Event Horizon Now Running on Defiance and Defiance 2050
The Event Horizon… event is ongoing now in both Defiance and Defiance 2050. Started on July 6th, the event will run through August 3rd in both versions of the game.
In Defiance 2050, players can participate in daily and weekly contracts, which will reward them Purified Gulanite, Reputation and a guaranteed Legendary weapon(Cosmic Resonance Fusion Set). In Defiance, players can access Quasar Wave Supply Crates. In general, each crate will contain “1 epic or better Quasar weapon and 3 mods from rare to legendary (at least 1 epic or better).” In addition, each crate has a chance to contain one of the nine Quasar Wave “Jackpot” weapons.
