When word came around that Blizzard would be releasing Diablo 3 for the PS3 and PS4, most of us were stunned. It had been a long time since Blizzard has announced anything regarding the console platforms. But they did just that at the Playstation 4 reveal earlier this year. From a game that has garnered polarizing coverage, yet soared in terms of sales, it looks like the console version of Diablo 3 may turn out to be a wonderful cooperative experience. Tally went hands on with Diablo 3 on the PS3 at PAX East, and was rather impressed.
Anyways, there is now a bonus for those of you who elect to pre-order your copy of Diablo 3 from select retailers. The bonus is an in-game helm named the "infernal helm." It will grant extra experience to the wearer, and there are no level or class restrictions on it. This potentially makes it quite useful. For a look at the helm, take a gander at the image on the bottom of the screen.
While there is no firm release date for Diablo 3 as of now, it is most assuredly being released this year. The Playstation 3 version will likely be released before the Playstation 4 one, presumably towards the end of the year. Like the PC version of the game before it, Diablo 3 will support up to four players in cooperative play both online and locally. The console version of Diablo 3 is also coming equipped with a slick custom interface that will best make use of console mechanics. Thankfully (or regrettably, depending on your stance) the controversial auction house will not be available in the console version of Diablo 3. In lieu of the auction house, there will be a menu-driven trading system. Lastly, players can choose to play either online or offline. Diablo 3 is shaping up to be a a great cooperative console experience. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
