Dark Souls: Prepare to Die PC Edition Available Through Steam, DLC Coming to Consoles This Winter, New Video

In "I told ya so" news, the Artorias of the Abyss areas debuting in the upcoming PC version of Dark Souls will be available to console gamers as downloadable content. The Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition is coming to PC in all of its punishing glory on August 24th, while the DLC will hit consoles later this winter.

The PC edition will feature everything from the crushing console version, plus it will smash gamers in the face with two new areas, new enemies, new weapons, and new reasons to give up gaming.  Oh, and it will be available through Steam as well as Games for Windows Live. I can't think of anything to complain about, other than the fact that it's not happening right now.

IGN posted a new video which appears to show how players will access the new areas. I've been through Dark Souls backwards and forwards, and much of it looks new to me. Check it out below.

There's even a revamped online matchmaking system which should ease multiplayer connectivity, offering "quick matching for co-op or PvP." Man, I hope that makes it to the console version. It's sorely needed.

Dark Souls supports three player online co-op. This is a very non-traditional style of cooperative play, so you should check out our Co-Op Review and FAQ before you dive in. The Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is scheduled for an August 24th release for PC. The console DLC add-on should be out this winter. It will cost 1200 MSP, or $14.99. Are you prepared to die?

Thanks to Steampunk Jin for the tip!
