 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
This game is great! My wife and I did a few co-op games last night. There is are a few challenges and also a little series called "events." The challenges include Target Smash where you smash a lot of bullseye-style targets scattered around the stage, homerun derby, and a multi-man brawl against weird robots.
We cleared the first level of the events, where it puts two players as specific characters against others with a specific mission, such as beat both characters before time runs out. Next up... try the Subspace Emissary mode in co-op. Has anyone else played this yet?

Heck if I am going to buy another game for it. He might play it once a month. He has Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, Spiderman 3, Spongebob Squarepantis Atlantis. He also borrowed my brother-in-laws fishing game...and I just rented him Transformers the Movie game for the Wii. Nope..not playing them. As much as I would like to try this game, there is no chance in heck I am getting this for the Wii. Once he shows more interest in the "only thing I want for Christmas"...as I stand in line for 5 hours in -10 degree weather, the Wii will remain unused. Venting is done. Sorry. The game looks pretty tight though. I may rent it for myself one day.

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Why don't you rent it for little Hed Jr.? Seriously, if he is at ALL a gamer he'll fare well. The controls are great (4 modes: Wii remote alone, Wii remote + nunchuk, GameCube controller, or Classic controller), ability to handicap, adjust the CPU's difficulty, etc! Since I'm still "training" my wife how to play, we're using teams: 2 on 1 in our favor!
At least rent it and see what you think. I know you'll dig it, chances are he will too.

I didn't know 8 year olds would like doing that. They are all flash based games. His favorite is Andkon.com, with literally hundreds of free flash based games. They are almost like Xbox Live Arcade games.....they are so simple, and yet it keeps him and his friends entertained for hours. Yet, no Wii playing. I might rent it while I am on Spring Break with my son (and the wife is home for spring break too). I really do want to try it.

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
How does it play with just a Wii Remote? It's be nice to not have to drag out the Gamecube controllers and string cables all over the place. We only have one Wavebird...

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Plays quite nicely with just the Wii remote. Hold it horizontally, like the old NES controller. Up jumps, left/right move/run, down ducks. 1 and 2 are the attacks, pressed together they're smash attacks. I think the official SSBB site has the specifics if you want more. It's not perfect, but it works quite well. My wife likes it a lot.

I have to say, the absolute best configuration is the classic controller. It feels so comfortable. Sadly, there is no configuration that can keep me from completely sucking at the game.

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I beat this game today in co-op!!! We played 5 hours Saturday night, until 2AM! That's a lot for this 30 year old parent! Anyway, I did the nunchuk and Wiimote configuration and it worked quite well for me. I mapped the Smash Attacks to the cross pad and had no problem at all. The levels got a bit repetitive at the end, but otherwise we loved the co-op experience.

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Just had to add how awesome the co=op story mode was. I was not expecting that from this game, and was pleasantly surprised to see that, when you eventually get tired of constantly brawling, there are a ton of other modes to keep you occupied. Truly one of the best games for the Wii.

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Right on. Only thing that keeps it from being played is my wife. She just can't hang with it for long. I can rarely get more than 45-60 minutes out of her. And on Brawl, I'm usually just getting warmed up at that point!!

 Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
As much as I anticipated this game coming out, I hadn't expected much of a co-op experience beyond seeing Bowser and Ganondorf beat pikichu into yellow pudding. The discovery of the subspace emissary was like buying a carton of eggs and finding out they're all made of gold. This game has decisively proven that Super Mario Brothers 1-4 should have been co-op.
