Up to four players get together and form a faction. Each game allows for up to four factions meaning up to 16 players can in theory work together. In a faction each player can fulfill different roles e.g. one player builds the city, another explores the world and so on. If a player leaves the session the other can continue playing.
Victory conditions are optional like economic or population milestones or removing other factions.
Sessions are self-hosted (non persistent), but sessions can be saved and reloaded later with the possibility to switch players and their faction affilliation. If players leave a session mid-game, the AI automatically fills the ranks of unused factions. Active DLCs are defined at session startup and must be owned by all subsequent players.
