Rebellion, the studio behind Strange Brigade and the Sniper Elite series, has acquired the game portfolio of The Bitmap Brothers, a British game development studio with titles dating back to the 90’s, like The Chaos Engine, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe, and Gods. Titles in this acquisition will likely be receiving sequels or remasters, as Rebellion has expressed their appreciation of the games’ legacy as well as their intention to move forward with their newly acquired intellectual properties. 

A couple of co-op deals have appeared on the recent Humble Weekly Bundle, just enough to make it worth our nod of approval. Out of the 14 games in the bundle, three offer up a tasty co-op mode. Strangely enough, they're all retro-style arcade shooters, too.

The Chaos Engine was originally released for Amiga back in 1993. It eventually spread to MS-DOS, the SNES, Sega Mega Drive and other platforms, but not until now has it seen an official release on modern PCs. The Bitmap Brothers' top-down shooter has returned, and assuming you're older than the game, it's exactly how you remember it!...

This is a co-op game announcement that surprised me mainly because I had never heard of it before. I mean, there are plenty of games I'd never heard of before, sure; but I would have sworn to you just yesterday that I could name you the great co-op shooters on the SNES/Sega Genesis consoles. Apparently I somehow missed The Chaos Engine, a top-down shooter that had its heyday back in the early 90s. The good news is that I'll get a chance to check it out as a remake has been in the works and will see release next week.
