Robots, bears, laser swords and....free games!

Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn Giveaway

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn was released a few weeks ago on the PlayStation 3. The two player co-op game slipped under our radar, which is pretty hard when it contains 40 foot tall fighting robots. We haven't officially reviewed a Dynasty Warriors Gundam Game since the second iteration, but the 4th game in the series continues the trend of huge massive anime robot space battles. Destroying mass quantities of robots with a laser sword and a co-op buddy by your side is my idea of a good Thursday evening.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn Sees Summer Release in North America and Europe

Though Japan has been battling mecha for some time, Techmo-Koei has announced Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn for PS3 is headed to North American and European shores sometime this summer. While it's getting a full boxed release in Europe, those of us in the Americas will have to settle for digital only. Soon, you too may pilot your very own giant robot and wade into an ocean of green metal and laser swords.

New Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 Trailer

Is the latest Dynasty Warriors game not doing it for you?  Are you sick of ancient Chinese history, but you love slaughtering endless waves of enemies while mashing the "destroy," "destroy harder," and "destroy hardest" buttons?  Maybe you need a heaping spoonful of giant robot.  Check out this new trailer for Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3.  No Yellow Turbans, no Cao Cao, and no horses.  Plenty of giant robots, though.  Or should I call them mobile suits?  Nah, "Giant Robot" sounds better than "Mobile Suit."

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 Features Cel-Shading, Four Player Co-Op

Like sands through the hour glass, so are the releases of Dynasty Warriors games.  I'm saying there's a lot of them.  After the umpteenth retelling of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, someone over at Koei decided the Gundam series had a story convoluted enough to make an acceptable plot for a  DW game.  So they added giant robots to the mix.  Enter Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3.  By now you know the drill.  If you are new to the DW franchise I'll sum up: Pick one of dozens of characters and fight hundreds, if not thousands of enemies by mashing the attack button.  Now with robots.  Amazingly, it's not as awesome as it sounds.  If you haven't played a DW game in a while it is nice to pick one up every now and then, if only to remind yourself of why you don't own all the DW games. (Confession: I loved DW 3 and 4.)

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 Co-Op Review

There is a theorem that states “an infinite number of monkeys hitting keys at random on an infinite number of typewriters for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type the complete works of William Shakespeare.”  The theorem is intended to demonstrate the perils of trying to define infinity by using a finite, though vast, number.  Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 takes this theorem to heart and seems to depend upon the fact that if you do the same actions over and over and over again, you may eventually find a rewarding experience lurking somewhere in the depths.  Unfortunately, Gundam 2 is not Hamlet and the play experience is more akin to using Yahoo’s babelfish to translate a book written in English to another language, to another, and yet another before finally translating it back.

This Week in Co-Op: Dynasty Warriors Gundam

I have to be quite honest with you: I have a serious weakness for giant robots.  Shogun Warriors, Voltron, and best of all, the Transformers had a profound effect on me as a kid.  This same awe and passion for enormous mechanical automatons has been passed on to my kids.  So, when we saw Dynasty Warriors Gundam playing on a kiosk, it was only a matter of time before we tried it out.  Co-op meets giant robots?  What could be better, right?

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 Free DLC Invading

The Dynasty Warriors Gundam series is quite interesting.  Obviously, Gundam is a nice game friendly franchise, with giant robots (not really giant robots, but still, GIANT ROBOT-LIKE SUITS, awesome) and lots of drama.  Dynasty Warriors is one of the longest running co-op friendly series.  The two meet and much fun can be had; I've enjoyed playing the first Dynasty Warriors Gundam over the past few weeks.
