News for those of you planning your next big heist in the gaming world. Payday 2, the sequel to Payday: The Heist, will extend beyond a digital release. The team at Overkill Software will be delivering the sequel via physical disc. Right now, the game is planned to release on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. There will be a global release for Payday 2.
The good news is that the physical release of the game means that there is likely too much game to fit via the XBLA and PSN channels. Game director David Goldfarb had this to say regarding the physical release: “We have a bit of a problem here at Overkill – there are just too many great ideas and none that we were really happy to throw out - so PAYDAY 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live® and PlayStation®Network alone.”
In addition to this, the following was also said regarding Payday 2:
“It’s an incredible position to be in, having a game that just keeps growing and getting better all the time,” added Head of Global Brand at 505 Games, Tim Woodley. “We wanted to do everything we could to make a game that truly fits the vision of the team at Overkill but most importantly delivers an exciting, rewarding experience for the player – be they a long-time fan or new to the series. We’re expecting great things from PAYDAY 2 and are really looking forward to working with our retail partners all over the world to make it the huge success it deserves to be.”
All of this is good news for fans of the series and those interested in the game. Payday 2 will release sometime in August 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC via Steam. It will feature cooperative play online with up to four players.
