It seems that gamers will have to wait until April before they can get their tentacles on Octodad: Dadliest Catch for their PS4's. Developer Young Horses announced that their game will be pushed back slightly to finish polishing it for the console version.
Intended to release in March, developer Young Horses decided that they needed more time to make sure the game ran the best it could and be as stable as possible on the PS4. However, they have reiterated on their official Twitter account for Dadliest Catch that this newly announced release window shouldn't be constituted as a "delay", per se. Since they felt it would be difficult to predict when development would be 100% complete, Young Horses stands by their decision to not make a release date set in stone. To be fair, they have a very small team to make this all happen in a short time, so this can be somewhat justified:
@sukTHEfac We’ve always said that we’re targeting a certain timeframe because it’s hard to estimate when a game will really be ready.
— Octodad (@octodadgame) February 20, 2014@honestom23 It got pushed into April because we want to make sure it runs the best it can and is stable. We don’t want to release it broken.
— Octodad (@octodadgame) February 20, 2014@honestom23 That sort of thing takes time when you’re a small team. We’ve only had 1 programmer on PS4 version until recently. Now 2 of them
— Octodad (@octodadgame) February 20, 2014Dadliest Catch is currently available on PC for those who are looking to give it a go rather than wait for April. As for the studio's plans to bring their game to other platforms, they are currently deciding if they want to bring it over to the Xbox One or not (nothing is confirmed). As for the Nintendo Wii U, they don't have any plans to develop for it at this time.
@sukTHEfac We’re not currently working on an Xbox One version of the game. We are interested in it, but have not decided to do it yet.
— Octodad (@octodadgame) February 20, 2014If you're up for a few laughs, can be patient with your co-op partners, and have a few bucks to spare, Octodad: Dadliest Catch might be worth looking into for a play session or two. Up to four players locally can take control of a fatherly, incognito octopus' tentacles to prevent him from being discovered as a disturbing aquatic animal.
