Geometry Wars has come a long way since its initial release in 2003. The arcade shooter has grown a lot in the last decade, adding things like-- you know what? It added co-op. That's what matters. Even the brand new PlayStation Vita version has co-op, and you only need one system to give it a try!
The Vita port of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions has all the same challenge and neon things as the other versions of the game. Solo adventure mode features 50 challenges with 40 extra stages in ultimate mode. Hardcore mode exists with a core "classic" Geometry Wars feel, including stages inspired by the original game. Simple when you want it, modern and majestic when you need it. Not bad.
Co-op in takes the single player formula and warps it for two players to enjoy together. Ten exclusive cooperative stages are available, and thanks to the Vita's semi-mirrored design, you only need one system to play it. One player uses one analog stick, the other uses the other. Sounds cramped and awkward in writing, but it might be crazy enough to work!
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved is ready to roll PlayStation Vita for $14.99 via the PlayStation Store. PlayStation Plus members can grab it for free as part of July’s Instant Game Collection.
