The Outriders co-op demo is out now, allowing you and two friends to experience a sci-fi adventure of shooting and looting on an alien planet. In the demo you are able to take a character up to Level 7 and experience the intro and first major boss battle along with a small number of side quests. We jumped in the other night to see what this game was all about.
It's hard not to draw comparisons to The Division with Outriders, but there's definitely a lot of the same feel with the game. In fact, I can remember early impressions with the Division feeling eerily similar - just that there's an overall disconnect with what's going on with the game and its mechanics to feedback to the player. In its current state Outriders just feels off. It has all the pieces of the puzzle but their edges are extremely jaggy.
If the gameplay being rough wasn't problem enough, our crew was marred with technical issues including crashes. Thankfully Outriders supports drop-in and drop-out co-op play so we were able to quickly resume our sessions, but it was still frustrating.
Check out our playthrough of the demo below including an overview of the classes, some of the skills, and two different boss battles. As you can hear from our voice chatter, we we're pretty frustrated throughout. Here's hoping the final version of the game works out some of these balancing kinks and technical issues.
Outriders is out on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S and Google Stadia on April 1st, 2021. It'll support 3 player online co-op when its released and any progress you've made in the demo should carry over.
