Major 'Reign of Sand' Update Coming to 'Atlas Fallen' in August

The update will overhaul progression, add news enemies and areas, and much more.

Atlas Fallen, the superpowered action RPG with a lot of sand in it, has earned a mixed reception since arriving on consoles and PC last year. Deck13 and Focus Entertainment have taken the feedback into account are preparing a major update to fix the game up. The free "Reign of Sand" update will be a complete overhaul of Atlas Fallen, revamping progression and adding lots of new content. It's due on August 6.

First, what's an Atlas Fallen? Does it have anything to do with that Netflix movie, Atlas, or the book, Atlas Shrugged? No, they don't seem to be related. Atlas Fallen is an open-world action RPG from the same studio that developed The Surge. We hope this clarifies things.

The game currently features:

Master the sands to explore a unique fantasy world teeming with secrets, locales and dangers Hunt legendary creatures alone or with a friend in heroic, super-powered combat Unleash your power to create deadly shape-shifting weapons Rise as the ultimate champion with unique custom skills and abilities 4-player online co-op

The upcoming  "Reign of Sand" update features:

An expanded world, new enemies, revamped progression, new quests... The world of Atlas Fallen will be enriched by this major, entirely free update! Enjoy new voice acting with the talented Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVIWarframe), a reworked campaign, and face even more formidable creatures armed with 25 new Essence Stones. Persevere in your adventure with the long-awaited "New Game " feature and challenge the gods with the new Nyaal's Nightmare difficulty mode. Many more surprises and improvements await in this content-rich new version of the game!

Starting August 6, Atlas Fallen evolves into Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand. As a replacement of the base game, this major, completely free overhaul will be available as an update across all platforms, ensuring that every player, whether they are current, returning or newcomers, can dive into the enhanced version of the game. While you'll be able to carry over progress you made on your old character like equipment and loadouts to Reign of Sand, starting a new playthrough is highly recommended for the optimal experience to fully immerse in the breadth of new features and enhancements.

It sounds like players who have already fallen for Atlas have a lot to look forward to when the update arrives on August 6.

Atlas Fallen sells for $49.99 on Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5, and $39.99 on Steam. The Xbox and PlayStation versions are on sale for 30 percent off at the time of this announcement.
