The Karate Kid: Street Rumble Is Heading to Consoles and PC in September

A beat 'em up that retells The Karate Kid 1-3 and has 4-player co-op? Yes, please!

It's a big year for the Karate Kid franchise, with the final season of Cobra Kai debuting on July 18 on Netflix and a (probably way less good) film coming to theaters in December. GameMill Entertainment, makers of TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants, is getting in on the karate action as well. Today, they discreetly announced The Karate Kid: Street Rumble, a beat 'em up based on the first three Karate Kid films. It features 4-player local co-op, and it's coming in September!

Features:

Classic Storyline – Relive the adventures of The Karate Kid while facing the challenges put forth by Cobra Kai and other foes. The game follows the narrative of the original trilogy, allowing you to experience the highs and lows of The Karate Kid journey. Dynamic Combat System – Master the art of karate with an intuitive and responsive combat system. Execute powerful combos, perform signature moves like the crane kick, and defend against the enemy dojo’s relentless attacks. Each level presents new challenges and enemies inspired by the films’ memorable characters. Boss Battles – Face off against classic villains such as Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, Terry Silver, and other formidable opponents across 12 intense levels. Each boss battle is a test of skill and strategy, challenging players to remember the lessons of Mr. Miyagi. Iconic Locations From the Original Classic Films – Brawl your way through 12 levels inspired by The Karate Kid original trilogy such as Topanga Beach, West Valley High, Cobra Kai Dojo, the All Valley Tournament, and more! Pixel Art Mastery – Dive into a visually stunning pixel art world that pays homage to the golden era of gaming. Every punch, kick, and iconic scene is beautifully crafted in classic 16-bit-era glory, delivering a truly nostalgic experience. Fast-Paced, Retro-Style, Beat ‘Em Up, Side-Scroller – Face hordes of enemies in your quest for martial art dominance. Retro Soundtrack – Immerse yourself in the ’80s with a chiptune soundtrack that captures the spirit of the era. Classic-style tunes will accompany you on your journey, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere. Cooperative Multiplayer – Battle alongside friends in up to four-player local cooperative play.

This is not a game I expected to see! There have been three Karate Kid games in the past: The Karate Kid for NES, which was developed by Atlus, and Cobra Kai 1 and 2 for modern platforms, both developed by Flux Games for GameMill. Street Rumble won't have online co-op, sadly, a common issue with GameMill titles.

This new game features a TMNT: Shredder's Revenge-like art style and adapts the stories of the original film trilogy. Playable characters shown in the trailer include Daniel LaRusso, Mr. Miyagi, Ali Mills, and Kumiko from Karate Kid 2. It's a shame that Hillary Swank's Julie Pierce likely won't appear in this game, but maybe she'll finally show up in Season 6 of Cobra Kai.

The Karate Kid: Street Rumble will arrive on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam on September 20.
