X-Out Resurfaced Is a Remake of a Classic Amiga Shoot 'em Up, Due in the Winter

The remake of the cult classic European shmup will feature enhanced graphics and local co-op.

Back in 1990, Rainbow Arts released a well-liked shoot 'em up for Commodore 64, Amiga, and other computers called X-Out (pronounced "Crossout"). The game had an underwater theme, an R-Type-like visual style, and a robust in-game shop - but no co-op. That omission will finally be fixed in the upcoming remake, X-Out Resurfaced, from ININ Games, Ziggurat Interactive (which bought Rainbow Arts), and Kritzelkratz 3000. The new game will have 2-player local co-op, and it's coming to all platforms this winter.

The new version of X-Out will feature:

Resurfaced: Experience a fresh but faithful take on a real shoot-’em-up classic! Redrawn: Get dazzled by the new and beautiful sprite work mixed with shiny particle and lighting effects! Remixed: Take a journey through new and old synth soundscapes courtesy of composer legend Chris Huelsbeck! Reequipped: Choose one of three loadouts or build your own fleet in the improved shop system! Reconnected: Grab a trusty ally and face the depths together in a 2-player couch co-op dive!

X-Out for Commodore 64 and Amiga

From the trailer and screenshots that we've seen so far, Resurfaced certainly looks impressive. The addition of local co-op is a huge plus. If this game turns out well, perhaps Ziggurat will remake the sequel, Z-Out, as well.

X-Out Resurfaced will splash onto Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam this winter. Read more about it at ININGames.com.
