I don't want to get too big for my britches or anything, but sometimes we games journalists have a lot of sway in the industry. For instance, we just published our Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 co-op review today, and on the very same day, D3 Publisher finally updates the Steam version of Earth Defense Force 6. Coincidence? I think not! The update fixes a killer crash that afflicted some AMD Radeon users, reduces load times, and more. You're welcome, EDF fans! ;)
Fixed an issue with the Ranger vehicle “Free Bike,” where contact damage would occur with objects when not in the vehicle. Reduced load times by increasing read speeds. Fixed an issue with the Air Raider vehicle “Combat Wagon,” included in the Additional Mission Pack 2. The “Giga Launcher” can now be fired when using keyboard and mouse controls. Fixed an issue that occurred on some GPUs that caused the game to stop during play on PCs with AMD GPUs (Radeon series). Fixed some enemy sound balancing issues. Additionally, the “SE Volume” setting in the “Game Settings” menu will now correctly be reflected in game.I never encountered the AMD Radeon crashing issue, just some occasional crashes on Steam Deck. As for faster loading and fixing the Free Bike vehicle (that I've never used), those improvements are definitely welcome. That said, two major outstanding issues remain: online multiplayer occasionally desyncing and the space bar not working in text chat when playing with a controller. Come on, Sandlot and D3 Publisher, you've got more work to do!
D3 Publisher's Earth Defense Force 6 is a third-person shooter that supports 2-player split-screen and 4-player online co-op. I chose EDF6 for my 2024 Co-op Game of the Year, so you know it's something special. For more information, check out our full co-op review and developer interview!
Earth Defense Force 6 costs $59.99 on PlayStation and Steam. On PlayStation, a deluxe edition is also available for $89.99 that bundles the game with DLC.
