Duke Nukem Forever is Official, Out Next Year (no really)

There are those that said this day would never come.

The day has come and with it comes the official re-announcement of Duke Nukem Forever.  A game that was announced in April of 1997.  As the Penny-Arcade Expo opened its doors today, fans were greeted with a 2K Games booth featuring the famous logo.  Shortly afterward, Gearbox Software's Mikey Neumann tweeted this picture of Randy Pitchford sporting a DNF t-shirt.

Pitchford actually worked on Duke Nukem 3D.  Gearbox began finishing “Duke Nukem Forever” in late 2009. “Clearly the game hadn’t been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created.  The approach and investment and process at 3d Realms didn’t quite make it and it cracked at the end."

According to the WallStreet Journal the game will feature both single player and multiplayer modes, which we hope means the co-op of the original returns.  Pitchford is currently demoing the game at PAX on an Xbox 360.

The game is playable on the show floor.

We'll be updating this post with media and information as its received.
