Did you pre-order Dead Rising 2? Did you get a sweet Ninja theme, or a Sport Fan theme? Do you see that picture up there? Yeah, you chose wrong. That's the Psychopath theme. And you can get that and the other three available outfits in the coming month through the capitalistic miracle of spending actual money on digital clothing.
Different retailers offered up different pre-order bonuses for Dead Rising 2. The varying themes available were (Listed in order of ass-kickery): Sports Fan, Soldier of Fortune, Ninja, and Psychopath. So if you got your game from Gamestop you got one code, (Ninja) or from Best Buy you got another (Sports Fan). Since Capcom actually likes money, unlike other companies, you will soon be able to purchase these outfits as DLC.
If you didn't do your research, like me, you may have thought the outfits were purely aesthetic. Imagine how awesome I thought I was as I strolled through Fortune City, nigh invulnerable to the zombie hordes. It was like I wasn't even there. Almost ninja-esque, if you will. Little did I know, my ninjabilities were all for naught. It was the awesome Ninja outfit that was hiding me from the shambling masses. (Of course I got the Ninja Outfit. Because 'CubSoldierofFortune', 'CubPsychopath' and 'CubSportFan' are just stupid names.) This left me to wonder what might have been had I pre-ordered from a different source.
My ponderings will be answered soon enough.
Psychopath Theme Pack: Available October 12, 2010
Psycho Chuck will be a zombie’s worst nightmare as his new “insane” look will make him more difficult to kill and give him a host of gruesome weapons including chainsaws, cleavers, axes and more. Zombies won’t stand a chance!
But wait, there's more!
Hey Chuck! You got a little something on your...oh...never mind.
Soldier of Fortune Theme Pack: Available October 19, 2010
With the soldier costume, you can “Rambo out” with double ammo, increased shooting accuracy, more firepower and increased headshot accuracy. Chuck will also have a new special attack when using automatic weapons, spraying zombies with a hail of bullets.
I can't believe I got married in that exact same outfit.
Sports Theme Pack: Available October 26, 2010
For all you sports fans out there, this pack’s for you. Chuck’s damage will increase with sports-themed weapons. The new sports weapons (golf balls, basketballs, etc.) bounce more before stopping, allowing you to hit tons of zombies in one throw. Chuck also has a new charge/tackle attack for taking zombies down in the ultimate blitz! With the Sports Theme Pack, Chuck will also earn more from gambling, gain more health while eating and drinking (especially alcoholic drinks) and not get sick from drinking too much…
Ninja-esque, ninjabilities...What other word goes well with Ninja? Oh yeah. Ninjawesome.
Ninja Theme Pack: Available November 2, 2010
Ninja Chuck will have a new “stealth mode” where the zombies have to be much closer to him to detect his presence. This gives Chuck the upper hand as he is harder to grab and be taken down by hoards of the undead. Chuck’s damage is increased with sword-type weapons (broadswords, katanas, etc.) that have new special attacks. Stackable items and throwing items (nails, plates, gems, etc.) will also do more damage and Chuck’s throwing speed is increased.
I can say that the Ninja outfit is very effective. The zombies ignore you unless you run into them. I actually took it off after awhile because it felt like cheating. Okay, I left it on through my first playthrough. And for those of you wondering, yes you can mix and match components of each outfit, making yourself a Super Chuck.
The Dead Rising 2 DLC packs will be 160 Microsoft points for XBL or $1.99 on the PlayStation Network. That's two bucks each, friends. The DLC will be coming to the PC as well, but the release dates are yet to be announced.
What themes are you going to buy? Or are you one of those anti-capitalist commies who thinks that content should be given away for free? Do you think content comes from the content fairy? I kid, I kid. But seriously. Psycho-ninja-soldier-drunk guy sounds like a good time.
