There hasn't been much buzz about Mistwalker's The Last Story around Co-Optimus, mostly (entirely) because it has no co-op content. This has changed. The Japanese action RPG for the Wii will feature 6 player competitive and co-operative modes. Through the game's "Raid Lobby," players will be able to face off against each other or team up to fight a powerful creature. It sounds like it will be some sort of arena mode.
Mistwalker is headed by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. So expectations are high. You control a group of mercenaries looking for work in Ruli City. The game appears to have plenty of action elements, along with customization options for your mercenaries. Two trailers are out, one focusing on story, the other on gameplay. My Japanese is a little rusty, but I think the plot may revolve around a collection of youths exploring the world, only to discover more about themselves, while saving said world in some fantastical fashion, all with some awkward love story lurking in the background. I may be wrong.
Even though the above video is titled as the second trailer, I felt it set the mood, while the following trailer brings the action.
The Last Story does not yet have a U.S. release date, but it comes out this January 27, 2011 in Japan for the Nintendo Wii.
