Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is Tripwire Interactive's follow up to their successful PC title, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. In a market saturated with World War II shooters, Tripwire hopes the added features of Heroes of Stalingrad will help separate the title from the rest of the pack. One of these features is co-op play.
Co-operative play will involve 2 or more players, and an ability to play through the campaigns. The devs also claim that you can play as the German army. Playing as 'bad guys,' be they Nazis or Taliban, is one way to get buzz for a title, for better or worse.
Play as Both Armies. Follow the German army as they assault the city of Stalingrad, to the banks of the Volga. Follow the Soviet army as it holds the city against all the odds then destroys the Axis forces. Infantry and Armor. Players can play and command infantry squads and tanks recreated in the highest levels of detail, with fully-operational 3D interiors Free form single-player scenarios. WWII combat recreated as brutal battles, at close-quarters and at long ranges – not as a Hollywood-style movie. Historically-accurate maps. Whole sections of the city will be recreated, more accurately than ever before, as well as areas outside the city. All these sections will be used for SP and MP play. Persistent Stats and Player Progression. Grow in rank, earn medals, improve your abilities, and become a Hero. Co-op mode. Allows the player to invite one or more friends to join in fighting through the entire campaign, fighting alongside each other, trying to protect and support each other and win the day. Hero Rank. Gaining Hero Rank takes you into the top echelon of players. Heroes look different, have different capabilities, and affect the morale of other players. Emotional Modeling. Morale and emotional states give the AI game play depth unheard of in the genre. Confident AI holds their ground and performs their duties effectively. Shock tactics can send enemy AI into a panic – mow them down as they flee for cover! AI’s fear of death balanced with their sense of honor provides an unpredictable and exciting battlefield experience. Multiple MP Game Styles. Different game types including Tripwire’s well-known objective system enhanced as Territory mode, with Firefight, Skirmish and Countdown. Full MP campaign “meta-game”, bringing more depth and meaning to individual battles. You can expect to see Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, in 2011.
