Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.
The stories for this week:
- Magic The Gathering: Tactics on PC Jan. 18 for Free
- Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 Coming February 2
- Netflix and Hulu Plus Getting Kinect Controls in Spring
- Jon Schafer Joins Stardock
- DC Universe Online, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded Released This Week
Magic The Gathering: Tactics on PC Jan. 18 for Free
Sony Online is releasing Magic The Gathering: Tactics for free on PC January 18. This game will not be card-based, but instead a 3D strategy game. You start off with a starter deck and can purchase more cards if you like. Sounds interesting, although it has been years since I last played the card game.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 Coming February 2
The all-new Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will be dropping on February 2 for XBLA and PSN. This game will allow you to jump for the first time other than the game made by Grin for the 360 and PS3 a couple years ago (and I though that game was pretty good). I liked the first game and certainly hope this second one is just as good if not better.

Netflix and Hulu Plus Getting Kinect Controls in Spring
I still don’t have a Kinect even with the 8 million sold so far supposedly. Microsoft announced that Netflix and Hulu Plus would be getting Kinect controls sometime this spring though, something that will be of interest to a lot of people I’m guessing.

Jon Schafer Joins Stardock
There was news late last year that Jon Schafer had left Firaxis after the release of Civilization V and now we know he has been picked up by Stardock to lead the development on the two expansion packs to Elemental, the recent game that had a horrendous release. After that he will lead his own game for Stardock. Good luck!

DC Universe Online, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded Released This Week
Some relatively big releases for this week as we move into a semi-busy release schedule coming up. First up is the MMO DC Universe Online coming on PC and PS3 this Tuesday. I haven’t played a lick of it as of yet, but there are plenty of impressions out there. Could Sony finally have an MMO that reaches the popularity of Everquest? I wouldn’t go so far as to say it could rival World of Warcraft, but hopefully it can find its own niche. The other big release is Kingdom Hearts Re:coded on the DS, a brand new game in the series. Situated after the events of Kingdom Hearts II, Jiminy Cricket finds a journal page he did not write during Sora’s first journey in the original Kingdom Hearts. Mickey decides to digitize this journal page and a new adventure starts up.
