Beyond Co-Op, March 6th to March 12th

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- Batman: Arkham City Coming October 18
- 360 Has Best Non-Holiday Sales Ever in February
- 10 Million Kinects and Kinect Games Sold
- PAX East This Weekend
- Homefront, Top Spin 4, Yakuza 4 This Week

Batman: Arkham City Coming October 18

Warner Bros. announced late Friday that the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham City from Rocksteady will be out on October 18. We all hope it doesn’t see a delay like the original Batman: Arkham Askylum did after all the marketing material went out.

360 Has Best Non-Holiday Sales Ever in February

NPD announced that the Xbox 360 had the best sales ever for a non-holiday month in February, selling over 535,000 units. They are attributing it to the popularity of the Kinect and the system being more available than it has been lately.

10 Million Kinects and Kinect Games Sold

Microsoft announced that 10 million Kinect systems and 10 million Kinect games have been sold since the system was first released. I’ll be honest, I didn’t think the Kinect was going to be as popular as it has turned out to be. I’m usually pretty behind Microsoft on what they do, but I thought the Kinect was going to be a tough sell. I still don’t have one, but once I get into a bigger space with enough room I’ll probably go ut to get it.

PAX East This Weekend

A good number of the Co-Optimus staff is in Boston this weekend to attend PAX East. I’ve always been interested in going, but by this point I feel the conventions have become almost too big for their britches. In Boston it will be in a bigger venue than last year and now there are rumors of an overseas PAX happening in the future. I’m sure there is tons of fun to be had at PAX and maybe one of these years I’ll go to one, but who knows.

Homefront, Top Spin 4, Yakuza 4 This Week

Relatively quiet this week with THQ’s Homefront, 2K’s Top Spin 4 and Sega’s Yakuza 4 (PS3 only) coming out. Not really excited about any of them, although I am a bit interested in Yakuza. I used to enjoy the Top Spin games, but from what I played of the demo I was not impressed. I’m sure it is a totally different experience with the PS3 Move though if you have that ability (the game supports it).
