Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers was one of the biggest hits of 2010. Turns out being a new-player friendly, inexpensive downloadable video game version of the world's premiere trading card game is a recipe for success. The game spawned three expansions, and appeared on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. You don't have to be a powerful wizard to foresee a sequel, do you?
This summer, along the release of Magic 2012 in paper, Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 is arriving. This is a new game, incompatible with the previous release, and brings several changes to the virtual table. The standard new decks, Planeswalkers, and challenges will be included, but also some new features. Probably the most promising is the Archenemy game mode, where three players team up to take on one super-powerful computer-controlled opponent. Adding in another player to the co-op is great news, that's for sure. Still, I'm a bit concerned about the lack of deck customizing options, as well as online co-op, from the first game. No word yet whether either of these features will be included. Hopefully, the crystal ball will clear up and we'll be able to figure out the details sooner rather than later.
