When Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was announced, most were less than enthusiastic. The way it was presented, it was a retelling of the events of Dead Rising 2 with a simple character swap and a few added features. Luckily at E3 2011 we found out that wasn't quite all the retail title had to offer.
Coming out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Off the Record does retell the events of Fortune City, but a large part of that takes place in a brand new area called "Uranus Zone," which is a space themed amusement park. Along with this comes a ton of themed items and tricks, all of which makes it evident the game doesn't take itself seriously.
Lets see - you've got an alien helmet with laser eyes, fireworks you can impale (and launch) zombies with, some sort of robot flying machine that can be placed over a zombie, and the electric swords that can be shoved up a zombie butt. I think I got it all.
As usual there are plenty of zany outfits for Frank West to dress up in and the picture taking mechanic is back as well. Despite OFf the Record being a full retail title, it won't carry a full retail price, instead it'll be $39.99 at launch. So that's good news too. It'll also carry the same two player online co-op that Dead Rising 2 offered.
Watch the video and tell us what you think - looks pretty fun to me - just not sure if it's enough to warrant another retail release in the series. I'd have liked to see it as DLC instead.
