Keeping a job in the current economic climate is not always the easiest thing, but those looking for an opportunity in co-op games development may find IO Interactive's new job posting of interest. Are they looking for staff to help develop Kane and Lynch 3?
The IO Interactive jobs page has just been updated with a bunch of new postings including one for a Senior Multiplayer Programmer:
Senior Multiplayer Programmer
IO-Interactive is currently looking for an experienced full-time multiplayer programmer to join the Glacier 2 in-house technology team. The multiplayer technology lays the foundation for a yet unannounced 3rd person game with strong cooperative multiplayer elements. You will be expected to develop technology in close corporation with the game team, while keeping in mind that the solutions should be usable for future projects.
The post hints that the yet unannounced game will have strong co-op elements and as the rest of IO Interactive's cannon include the single player Hitman and Mini Ninjas series, it makes sense that the co-op ready Kane and Lynch will be back. However, what about the forgotten Freedom Fighters games? Surely that is another franchise that can be developed with co-op elements?
Whether it is a K&L, Freedom Fighters or a new IP, IO Interactive have proven with Dog Days that they can handle co-op, if a little flawed at times. With IO looking to develop co-op solutions to be used in future projects it appears that more co-op games will be on the horizon.
