Resident Evil 6 Announcement Video, Co-Op Confirmed

Resident Evil 6 has been announced, and as we had hoped, the game will support cooperative play.  None of the co-op details have been released, but we expect a minimum of two player local and online co-op, which was readily available in Resident Evil 5.  A new action packed launch trailer shows off some new enemies, locations, and one of the worst haircuts in gaming.  I won't spoil it for you here.  Click away!

Allow me to provide you with a little back story, which was provided to us by Cacpom:

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack.  With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

As you can see from the trailer, the franchise seems to have all but abandoned its horror roots and shifted towards a "stuff exploding and being bathed in awesome" vibe.  RE:6 Executive Producer, Hiroyuki Kobayashi, had this to say of the game's new flow, “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers."   Dramatic horror?  Alright, let's go with it.

DRAMATIC HORROR!

We all saw Chris (awesome) and Leon (lame), but I counted three different protagonists doing their thing.  I may need to brush up on my Resident Evil lore - who was guy number three?  The gameplay seems to be ripe for cooperation.  Resident Evil 5's co-op was a real love-it or hate-it issue with fans.  We'll see how this plays out in the months ahead.  What do you think folks?  Sound off in the comments section!

Resident Evil 6 will launch on November 20th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  It will be available on PC at a later date.  Co-op details have yet to be released.  We are expecting (at the very least) two player local and online co-op.
