Spelunker HD is getting some new content. Now, before you get all excited, take note that I'm referring to Spelunker HD, not the recently released Spelunky. I've played both games, and I can honestly say Spelunker HD is like Spelunky's older, uglier, drunker, and more abusive brother. If you want more insight checkout my Co-Op Review from a few years ago. It was brutal.
So color me surprised to see new DLC heading to the PSN exclusive title. I know the game has a cult following, but... just, damn. The game is punishing. Remember, I play the Dark Souls and Demon's Souls games for fun. I couldn't even stomach more than a few nights of this monstrosity. Fans should be excited, because there's a lot of content heading their way. Some of it is even free.
The new patch will fix this split screen disaster. Allegedly.
A new patch will launch tomorrow (August 28th). It will give the player more lives, adds new trophies, and "improves screen views in the online multiplayer mode." As you can see above, if you played the game online you can see your partners' screens. If you lack a few partners you simply saw a blank screen. It's heinous, I tell you. Local co-op had the same problem. I hope the patch fixes this nonsense.
Bonus content will be included with the free patch. This will add a new area which will include 10 levels. Seven more DLC's will be available in the coming months for $1.99 each. So diehard suckers fans will eventually be able to add 80 new levels to the game.
Spelunker HD supports four player local co-op and six player online co-op. It's on sale for 50% off for PlayStation Plus members. Pick it up. I dare you.
