Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, the weekend column that rounds up some of the interesting stories from the week outside of the co-op sphere of interest.
This week has been fairly light in the news department, but there are always some points of interest. Let’s take a look at what we have this week:
- Hitman: Absolution Launch Trailer Released
- Walking Dead Season Finale Announced
- 100 Million Friendships Made on XBox Live
- Hitman: Absolution Launch Trailer Released
You may recall a bit of controversy awhile back about the upcoming Hitman game. It surrounded a trailer that featured the main character taking out a squadron of nuns with guns (and the nuns were wearing some revealing outfits). Well, for those of you who are like me and this game entirely slipped off your radar, the game that generated that controversy (Hitman: Absolution) is out next week! The launch trailer came out yesterday and it features much assassination, some creeping around hallways, explosions, and strippers.
Hitman: Absolution releases next Tuesday, November 20th. What do you guys think of the trailer, and what kind of expectations do you have for the upcoming game?
- Walking Dead Season Finale Announced
Also announced for next Tuesday is the Walking Dead season finale. The episode will be entitled Walking Dead, Episode 5: No Time Left. Little has been revealed about the content of the new episode (though if you’ve played or read about episode 4, you’ll probably have some idea), but writer Gary Whitta warned players in a tweet to “Prepare for the WORST THANKSGIVING EVER!” Tweets about the episode also include the hashtag #ForClementine. For feel free to speculate!
Episode 5 releases on PSN November 20th, then for PC, Xbox Live, Mac, and iOS November 21st.

- 100 Million Friendships Made on XBox Live
Xbox Live turned 10 this month (check out our article on how it changed multiplayer gaming), which probably succeeded in making a lot of us feel old. There were some statistics pointed out by Kotaku that I felt were interesting and deserved a nod in this column. Since Xbox Live went live (tee hee) in 2002, over 100 million friendships (tracked by the friending system) have been made and 270 billion achievement points have been scored. That’s a whole lot of people playing together and a jaw-dropping amount of achievement points.
