Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind Now Has Upgradadeable Rangers

From now on, "Morphin Time" will be different for each Ranger.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind has received a few updates since launching last year, tweaking the gameplay and making for a better experience. The most recent update does that and goes one step farther by adding a new skill point system to differentiate the various Power Rangers and give players upgrades to work towards. If that's not enough, Digital Eclipse and Atari have announced that online play will be getting an upgrade later this year as well.

The new update is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam. The Switch version gets the update slightly later. The update adds:

  • Upgradeable Rangers: Digital Eclipse is implementing a new skill point system that lets you adjust your preferred Ranger’s strength, defense, and speed. This gives each character variety while also allowing every fan to make their favorite Rangers exactly play how they want them to play.
  • Morphers: These special modifiers change up things like gravity, speed, and more. Plus, if you want to play Rita’s Rewind as it was at launch (with all Rangers being equally capable), that option is available, too. Mix and match for some seriously silly fun in your battles.
  • Power Blast: Finding yourself swamped with Robo Rita’s many minions? Use Power Blast to knock them back in exchange for a chunk of your health bar. No reward without risk, but it’ll certainly help turn the tide of chaotic battles.
  • Ground Recovery: With a properly timed button press, a hero who has been knocked back by an enemy attack can recover quickly and start attacking again, as opposed to landing on the ground and then needing to get up. This should keep the pace of those brawls at maximum speed!

As for the upcoming online update, Digital Eclipse explains:

Previously, Rita’s Rewind supported three players on two separate consoles for a total of six online players. In this new update, six players will each be able to play on six separate machines using a peer-to-peer connection.

That's proper Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge-style online co-op, and we can't wait for it.

In Rita's Rewind, Robo Rita travels back in time to team up with the original Rita. Only the original Power Rangers, who have just gained their powers, can stop the terrible twosome. Players choose the Ranger of their choice and then battle the Ritas' army in beat 'em up, driving, and Zord stages. The game's pixel art is gorgeous, and some stages even feature beautiful "super-scaler" 3D effects. Local co-op supports up to 6 local players (depending on the platform), and online co-op supports two consoles with up to three players on each console. For more details, see our full co-op review!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind sells digitally for $34.99 on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam. The Steam version is fully Steam Deck compatible.
