These 12 keys can be redeemed on the PC via Steam and gets you access to the full game. None of the characters will be unlocked, but completing the tutorial will get you 2000 of the new Awesomepoints currency, which in turn can be spent to unlock some. There's also a rotation of four free-to-play characters you can enjoy every week. If you like what you see, then it looks like you can purchase the two expansions (Starstorm and Overdrive) for $5.39 each ($10.78 total) to automatically upgrade to the "All Nauts Pack". This gets you all of the Awesomenauts, past, present, and future. Here's a little handy chart for everyone that breaks some of that down.

Awesomenauts Going Free-To-Play on the PC Next Month

There's been a lot of changes to Awesomenauts over the past year on the PC, including a spectator mode and a level editor via Steam Workshop, and it sounds like much of that was being done to set things up for the transition to free-to-play. The new 4.0 update is the precursor to this shift and includes some big changes to the game's progression system and the tutorial. Here's what's new:

Awesomenauts Patch 2.3 Introduces New Playable Character

Voiced by Youtube personality, Dodger, Penny Fox is a nimble, but deadly warrior with a unique ability to charge up her moves and stats by attacking enemies. She's mainly a melee fighter, using her two moves, one being a Froggy G.-like "Splash Dash" move, and the other being a hadoken-ish wave that increases damage dealt to affected targets, to quickly dispatch enemies in a moment's notice. Any fan of "Assassin" type characters in MOBA's will thoroughly enjoy Penny's contribution to the roster. Just remember that she is only available to those who've purchased early access to the Awesomenauts: Starstorm expansion (currently $9).

Romino Announces Their PS4 Version of Awesomenauts

Developer Romino has been in collaboration with Abstraction Games to bring their popular 2D MOBA to the next gen, and have confirmed their game’s placement among the PS4 downloadable titles. Compared to its current console versions (PSN and XBLA), Awesomenauts’ PS4 version will include "all features the extensive PC version has" along with "tons of fixes to both code and gameplay, an extra map, more than twice the characters compared to the original release". Additionally, DLC skins will be available to customize the way your characters look, such as Clunk looking like a Creeper on the PC version.

Awesomenauts Arrives on Mac

One of the more pleasant co-op surprises in this past year in gaming was the MOBA-style Awesomenauts that was initially released on PSN and XBLA. Up to three players could team up to to do some good ole fashioned comp stomping against three AI opponents in order to go laning, feed foes, and other terms that I have no idea about. However, others seem to know what's up and must be playing quite a bit. Since its release back in May, the game's seen a PC release, a slew of patches, tweaks, and updates, and even a new character or two or five. For all you fans of MOBA games that are also fervent Mac users, your day has arrived. Awesomenauts is now available on Mac through the Steam client. Finally, PC players and Mac players can team up in wonderful co-op harmony.
