PSA: D&D Enhanced Editions on Consoles are Single-Player Only

I'm going to do my best to avoid any editorializing here and just say that initial information provided to us by the publisher of these versions (Skybound) indicated that they would support co-op/multiplayer. In the past couple weeks, the developer, Beamdog, put information out via social media and their forums that the games would not support co-op/multiplayer at release. This change was not communicated to us directly and thus we still had the console versions listed in our games database up until this weekend (we have since removed them). If you picked up the console versions expecting to play co-op, we apologize for the confusion and hopefully the platform where you purchased it will allow for a refund.

Enhanced Editions of D&D cRPGs Slightly Delayed on Consoles

The remastered versions of Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment (single-player only), and Icewind Dale, each packed with all of their content, have been delayed on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch until October 15th. Originally slated for a September release, these classic games have long been available on PC and mobile devices.

Big Expansion to Co-Op RPG Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition on the Way

Siege of Dragonspear fills the gap between Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition like some sort of globby glue substance. The gameplay will remain largely the same as previous Enhanced Edition releases, meaning you'll run around an isometric world beating things up, gaining experience points, and just generally RPGing the heck out of things with your friends. Co-op supports six online cross-platform players, which is about as awesome as it gets.

Even now, you persist in releasing another new entry into the Baldur's Gate series. Though it promises to bridge the story between the enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, it shall also be the mountain on which I climb to proclaim my adoration for you. PSA: Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Currently Has a Co-Op Issue

I received my review copy for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Thanksgiving weekend. I was a little sad when I found out that currently the game only supports TCP/IP co-op, mostly because it meant I couldn't try out the co-op until release (I didn't know anyone else that had an early review copy). November 28th rolled around, which meant I could try the co-op... theoretically. Unfortunately, that was not to be, as my press copy was not the same version as the released copy! This took me a few frustrating days to find out (my own fault) as I attempted many work-arounds that didn't work (how could they have, considering the root problem?)

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be hitting iOS and PC tomorrow, bringing with it a version of Baldur's Gate that has gotten a ton of polish and even some new content. The game was delayed a few months to polish up some of its own issues, which is a good thing, but it's finally time to unleash the game on a new generation of gamers.

The game was originally slated to be released this coming week, but an official post on the forums cites a team decision to hold off the game's ship date so the team can polish the game a bit more.

This September 18th, Windows owners will get their hands on Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, an update to the classic RPG created by Bioware. The enhanced edition is not just a quick port, but a huge upgrade on the original game which includes the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack as well as a new 6 hour campaign called The Black Pits. Also included are new characters, an enhanced interface, widescreen support, and brand new fully animated cinematic sequences.

While the rumors of a new Baldur's Gate turned out to be false, what the site was actually teasing was an HD remake of Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 for PC and iPad. The best news? The game will cost about $10 (on iOS) and feature co-op multiplayer like the original.
