Baldur's Gate 3 Arrives on PC in August and PlayStation 5 in September

Originally, all versions of Baldur's Gate 3 had targeted the same launch date: the end of August. Developer Larian Studios (who also made Divinity: Original Sin 2) has now explained that because the Steam version will be ready sooner, they will release it sooner. The PlayStation 5 version is also running at 60 FPS, so it will be ready a short time later, hence the September release.

We're not going to give too many critical impressions of the content or gameplay, it's all subject to change as the game is developed over the next year. What we can tell you is there's a solid foundation in place here based on Dungeons and Dragons 5E ruleset, some exposed via various dialog boxes and UI elements.

Early access for Baldur's Gate 3 begins on September 30th on Steam. The stream highlighted the sheer size of the game, using Larian Studios' other popular RPG, Divinity: Original Sin 2 as a comparison when it hit early access.

A powerful race of psionic creatures known as Illithids will be the primary foe in BG3, and both their strength and ambition are on full display at the beginning of the game. I'll let you get a taste for yourself in the video below, but be prepared for a bit of an... uh, eye-opener.

That said, there is an ominous caveat in the press release announcing that date that simply says "Maybe." We'll keep our fingers crossed and our masks on as we wait patiently for the return to RPG goodness.
