The four aspiring actors that are hoping to make it big will now find themselves in a summer camp that's been taken over by "a few hundred raver kids" to hold an all-night rave party. Obviously things aren't going to go as planned if zombies are involved. Just as "Zombies in Spaceland" had a particular theme, "Rave in the Redwoods" appears to be going for more of a '90s slasher vibe. There's even some kind of special enemy called "The Slasher" that they'll have to fend off.

While Mike and I played a few rounds of the zombie mode this past weekend, we still haven't really begun to scratch the surface of everything you can discover/do in this one map. Seriously, go do a Google search for how to acquire the Soul Key fragment. As Nick points out, and I tend to agree in this case, this really feels like it should be its own standalone thing, especially when you take into account that it also looks like future maps will be released for the zombie mode. Enjoy our attempts at just trying to make it wave 15.

Zombies in Spaceland lets you and three online friends jump into an '80s inspired space-themed amusement park filled with zombies. After magically getting teleported inside a director's horror film, four aspiring actors will shoot zombies as they adopt the personas of stereotypical '80s characters: the jock, the nerd, the valley girl, and the rapper. Even more radical are the styles of zombies they'll destroy, including zombies in Thriller jackets, zombies in 3D glasses, mohawk zombies, and zombie clowns. Amusement parks are fun!

While the lack of a co-op campaign may disappoint some, it sounds like Infinity Ward took that energy and focused it into Zombies in Spaceland. More than just a way to shoot zombies, the dev team took that three year development time to make something that would feel very different from the rest of the game. One of the ways they've done this is to add a unique respawn mechanic. Players that fall to the zombie swarms will be transported into an "80s themed arcade... [with] fully functioning carnival-style games and some classic Activision 2600 games you can play." If you rack up enough points in these games, you can "earn your way back to life before the round ends." Depending on the quality of those games, I may end up intentionally dying just so I can spend more time in that arcade!

Together, they'll face off against zombies in Thriller jackets, 3D glasses, mohawks, and (shudder) clown outfits. Like zombie modes in previous Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty games, "Zombies in Spaceland" features the vocal talents of Jay Pharoah, Sasheer Zamata, Ike Barinholtz, Seth Green, Paul Reubens, and David Hasselhoff.

Details about this mode are sparse for now. In the press release, all that was mentioned of this mode was "an original cooperative Zombies mode that takes players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics." So whether we'll see some of the same mechanics that were seen in the gameplay video shown during E3, or something different altogether, we'll have to wait and see.
