How could we be, when our eyes are fixated upon the latest map for the game's cooperative Zombies mode? Titled "The Tortured Path", this next area takes players on a quest for Emperor Barbarossa's legendary sword, which they must then transport all the way to the dang edge of the world. It sounds like quite the feat, but I'm guessing anyone in love with Call of Duty's longtime Zombies entries won't have too much trouble with it.
]]>As far as the zombie-bashing fun (which is why we’re all really here) it is getting enhanced with The Shadowed Throne, which according to the official page’s break down; “The Shadowed Throne brings our heroes into the heart of Nazi Germany to confront a desperate and murderous regime. Berlin is burning, and Doktor Straub’s monstrous army is hellbent on purging his city of the Allied invaders.”
After clearing out Mittenburg of the undead menance, the next chapter in the Zombie story (titled "The Darkest Shore") sees our band of heroes following a lead to an island just north of Germany. Shrouded by fog and swarming with zombies, who knows what mysteries Marie, Drostan, Olivia, and Jefferson will uncover? (Just a stab in the dark, here, but I'm guessing it rhymes with "snore womby")
The one aspect of this particular Zombie Mode that may have some promise is the studio's background (the two founders previously worked at Visceral Games on the first Dead Space title) in horror games. Jon mentions that "our goal was to make this the most terrifying Zombies experience we’ve ever created." There wasn't a whole lot of elaboration on that, but I suppose that will be one of those things players will have to see and judge for themselves once the title is out at the beginning of November.
Like many of the zombie modes in previous Call of Duty titles, this one will feature a cast of characters with some famous voices backing them. David Tennant (Dr. Who, Broadchurch), Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Daredevil), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings, The Dark Tower), Udo Kier (Blade, Melancholia), and Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation) will all voice various characters in the mode. Interestingly, the squad this time around isn't part of some anti-occult group or anything of that nature, but rather they are all members of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Section (MFAA, or "Monuments Men") and are simply trying to recover priceless pieces of artwork in the Bavarian countryside. Of course, they inevitably stumble into something far worse than an original Van Gogh that's been burned, and zombie hijinks ensue.

Apparently, all we get for now is the gruesome teaser image below. While the "Zombies" mode in the modern Call of Duty titles has usually been pretty solid from a co-op perspective, I was really hoping that Sledgehammer would maybe try something new. Like, I dunno, a full co-op campaign that's not a separate thing?
