The Epidemic developers took to Steam recently to inform the community that the servers for the game are being shut down in October. Many of you may remember that the game bounced out on Beta only last year - but in the rough and tumble world of MOBAs, for every success there are tens of failures.

Dead Island: Epidemic Open Beta Now Live

Deep Silver has finally brought us the Open Beta for everyone to try out on Steam! Along with the arrival of the Beta, the game has received some major improvements through an update, such as an all new PvE mode: Crossroads! In Crossroads, the PvE gameplay has been enhanced in big ways, offering much more variation and increased replayability. Even if you are a beginner or a Dead Island veteran, the challenge of this mode can be experienced equally for all (PvP is also like this).

Dead Island: Epidemic Available Now Through Steam Early Access

Just so everyone is aware, the game will eventually be free-to-play, but those who want to get in on the action sooner can grab the game through Early Access. Purchase one of the three starter packs (of varying prices), grab some unique items and a familiar playable character, and help to fund the development of the title. The three packs will include:

Like the Dead Island series that Epidemic is based on, weapons, loot and crafting items are the focus for the free to play game. As you play the game's modes you'll earn weapon parts and blue prints to craft new weapons to bring into the game. On top of this there dozens of characters that you can pick from that each have defined class roles like healer, damage dealer, and support. It appears as if most characters will be locked and you'll earn a form of currency for playing to purchase new ones. There are also skills, boosts, and several other tweaks that can be made to your character to customize it to your liking. One thing I really enjoyed was that all the characters weren't just human, some were mutated.
