Episode 12 of Friday Awesomely Live Co-Op is here, and it's a long one! We started near the beginning of Dead Island Riptide, the sequel to Dead Island, and made a hefty amount of progress. We also had a nice chat with a viewer about Extra Life, 8-Bit Salute, and how to survive a 24 hour gaming marathon. Fun times were had by all. Check out the video below.

Dead Island: Riptide is on store shelves, and it's definitely more the same gameplay we saw in Dead Island. This can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on how you feel about the original game. Personally, I loved the first title, despite its flaws. What can I say? I really like chopping up zombies.

Dead Island: Riptide might not feel like a full sequel, but it's not quite DLC level either. The game sits inbetween in terms of quality and content, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. So what can you expect in terms of the game's co-op capabilities? Thankfully it's largely the same as the original game with a few minor enhancements like the ability to import your character.

A new Dead Island Riptide trailer, “Hope Is Drowning” emerged for everyone to sink their teeth into before the game’s April release. Personally, we can’t wait to dive into this new chapter of Deep Silver’s trilling zombie series, and this makes us even more impatient to play it.

Last fall, at PAX Prime, we got a chance to see some new footage from Dead Island Riptide. This is the sequel to the totally swell co-op zombie grinder, Dead Island. We were presented with a new gameplay feature, the hub defense mission. These missions will focus on co-op teams defending an area from waves of zombies until some sort of timed objective is met.

Dead Island: Riptide screenshots aren't exactly in short supply, as we saw a batch themed around the new chef character near the beginning of the month. But series fans demand more pictures of survivors slaughtering the undead, so it would be irresponsible of developer Techland not to dish new pics out. The highlight of this latest array of images is undoubtedly the one pictured above, in which a man with a bad haircut fends off an undead attacker with a boat oar. When the zombies come a-calling, who has time to get a proper haircut?

Dead Island Riptide is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on April 23rd, 2013. The co-op zombie Action/RPG is said to bring new gameplay mechanics, new locales, more zombie types, and of course, a better co-op experience. The original game was a definite favorite around the Co-Optimus HQ, scoring an Editor's Choice Award in our review. But can the new one live up to its predecessor? We went eyes on with the game at PAX 2012 and saw some of the goodness.
