Mike's Take:
]]>As of May 13th, 2020, Deep Rock Galactic hit 1.0, meaning it ended a two year journey through Early Access. Ghost Ship Games has done quite a bit to the game since it first emerged from the depths in 2018, and it shows. The launch trailer, shown below, doesn't necessarily highlight the litany of updates they've put out since initial release, but it does give newcomers a great glimpse at what the game holds in store for them.

Left 4 Dead and Vermintide were all about pushing forward through a level and managing resources (like ammo and health), but it felt like there was more of an emphasis on the forward momentum aspect as you wanted to engage with the special enemies and hordes in particular/ideal spots. While there is a push to exploring the caverns in Deep Rock, resource management feels like it's in the driver's seat. There are no ammo refills just laying about (you have to call for a resupply, which requires spending a certain amount of minerals you have to first find and mine), and health can only be regained from certain crystal clusters. Lighting is limited and it's all too easy to walk past something you need, so when you first enter a new spacious area, it is absolutely worth taking the time to fully explore it before moving on.
The title certainly draws inspiration from the Left 4 Dead games, but it adds to it different classes to play and character progression. We had a pretty good time when we played during one of the alpha sessions, and are looking forward to getting our hands on it some more.
The open alpha sign-ups run from now until 6:00 pm EDT on Monday, November 6, 2017. You can sign up by heading over to the Deep Rock Galactic website and putting in an email address. Everyone who signs up will get a Steam key on November 9 so you can hop in and check it out with your buddies. The Open Alpha ends at 4:00 PM EDT on Sunday, November 12. After that, the title will go into Steam Early Access and the Xbox/Windows 10 Game Preview program sometime in 2018.

Deep Rock Galactic is an upcoming "mining" game, but not like THAT mining game. You're dropped in a four player co-op FPS game with friends tasked with one thing - finding that sweet bling.
