Got an Xbox 360 or an Xbox One? Got Xbox Live Gold? Then you're set for free games every single month. The Games with Gold program rolls out a handful of free titles available to download gratis during specified times in the calendar month. All you have to do is sign in and start grabbing. The May line-up includes two games for 360 and two for One, though all four can be played by Xbox One owners thanks to backwards compatibility.
]]>Oh, sorry. All of that power got to me.
The content is an alternate version of an in game level called "Double-Take"
The way it works is similar to all Steam Workshop entry systems. Users can submit maps through the DG Architect tool, after which they will undergo consideration by the developer, Hidden Path. Maps under consideration can be viewed and commented upon on DG2's Workshop page. If approved and put into the store, proceeds generated from map sales will be split between Hidden Path and the map's creator.

Upgrading towers is a key feature in most tower defense games, and Defense Grid 2 is no exception. Fletcher has some choice words on the issue.
During the Gamescom event this week, Hidden Path has also hosting a whole bunch of Defense Grid 2 demos for gamers who are interested. One of the main features they are showcasing at the event is the game's user-created content tool known simply as "DG Architect". Here, players can tweek the games to their liking, including map editing and so forth. Do check out some new screenshots from the game in the gallery below!
Part of the first Defense Grid's strategy was in placing towers in a formation forcing the aliens to take as long of detours as possible. If you straight closed off their path with towers, they'd just say "you guys suck" and dance between your towers. It added more of a strategy than "place your best towers here and hope for the best." These new "fixed path tower placements" aren't representative of all the maps in DG2, but it seems like a step back to me.
The main incentive to pre-order Defense Grid 2 on Steam is a 10% off discount from the launch price ($25 originally) and immediate access to the beta (unfortunately, the beta is only available for Windows users at this time). Additionally, if more people preorder the game, new incentive tiers will be offered in the future (such as the original Defense Grid digital art book or a free copy of the Containment expansion to Defense Grid: The Awakening)

If your towers were unable to stop them on the way in, perhaps they can do something about it on the way out. Once an enemy holding a core is defeated, the core will return to base. It's a unique feature not too common in the tower defense genre, and calls for more thinking on the player's part.
Be sure to check out our detailed hands on impressions as well.
