"Today we're announcing that after many years of epic battles, we're closing Xbox 360 as a platform for Defiance 2013. This was not an easy decision for our team, but due to old technical systems, it became impossible to properly sustain the game."
]]>Called "Dark Metamorphasis," this update snatches players from the rubble of San Francisco and tosses them into the rubble of Monterey. The seaside ruins of Monterey include a new dungeon for players to ransack, albeit solo.
While they're no doubt stewing up something big in-game for the debut, Trion has thrown down several incentives for new and returning players to give Defiance a look.
The new area in the Silicon Valley update is, unsurprisingly, Silicon Valley. Accessed through Twin Peaks Station, players will find new enemies to fight: the converted Grid. New missions come along with the new territory, offered by a new NPC faction. The Pilgrims of the Guiding Light have settled in Silicon Valley, setting up temples to worship the Grid.
Plans for the Xbox 360 version of the game are still in development.
Announced way back last March, and now available on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 since April 15th, the "Arktech Revolution" completes Defiance's Season Pass DLC's to come out. In this DLC, players will find a major additions to the way character progression works, among other things. A weapon's strength will now scale with the EGO rating requirement for that weapon, so leveling up means a whole lot more to gameplay. It's important to note that non-Season Pass holders won't be able to download the standalone DLC until Tuesday, April 29th. Take a look at the full list of DLC content now available:
The Arkbreaker is packed with extras and will be free to people who have bought season pass. The cost for the rest of us is currently unannounced. Thankfully, some aspects of the DLC will be free, including opening up the vast majority of the game to co-op:
The name of the game for this patch is all about weapon bonuses and stats. Previous to patch 1.105, the guns in Defiance would come with various effects, such as bullets that set bad dudes on fire, or a gun that would revive the wielder upon death, which sounds like a pretty awesome gun. Of course, some of these bonuses would be just plain dumb, such as a sniper rifle that did additional melee damage. Well, now that the game has been patched, nobody has to worry about those anymore!
The pack is called the Castithan Charge Pack and is actually part of a game update that goes out to all players, regardless if they purchased the $9.99 piece of content. While the free game content will be released to the entire Defiance player base, the Castithan Charge Pack provides players access to new story missions, gameplay rewards, vehicles, customization enhancements and other things those that don't purchase can't access.
As usual, I'm behind in my DVR watching, so I don't know what happened in the Defiance TV show last night. I have been digging the Syfy series, mostly because it has played out much more like a Western than anything else. I've enjoyed the subtle nods to the MMO shooter counterpart, as well. The most recent server update brings a new element to the western/sci fi/apocalypse adventure: Zombies! Plaguers!

Trion Worlds' massively multiplayer third person shooter is still plugging along. The game has received numerous patches since launch, so if you haven't played it since the free beta back in March you might want to check it out. The free trial will last until 1PM PDT Sunday, May 26th. That's more than enough time to shoot some aliens and earn some decent scrip.
