Fallout 76 Now Has Private Servers For a Fee

The new "Fallout 1st" program, which costs $13 a month or $100 for an annual subscription, lets you host your own private server that can support you and seven of your friends. You'll also get a few other goodies, like a "New Vegas" Ranger Outfit and a monthly stipend of Atoms (the in-game currency that can be earned or bought), but that idea of having a Fallout world that's just for you and your friends is the real appeal. Especially if you can choose who to invite to it and if the server can stay up and running regardless if anyone's on it. That would be cool, right?

Although this patch has been out on PC for some time, it is unclear when it will be finding its way to consoles, as a number of bugs have been reported by users. Polygon’s reported time with the game found that there are issues where “timers don’t trigger, doors won’t open, and information isn’t conveyed due to UI bugs.” Further, the loot may not be as balanced as intended, as Kotaku reported on a player who completed the raid only to be awarded with a drill.

Details on this are pretty scarce for the time being; somewhat understandable as it sounds like Bethesda is focusing more on ensuring that they have a stable game that runs on launch day. The discussion of private servers (and modding) begins around the 9:00 minute mark in the video below, but be forewarned that it's not a lengthy discussion. Todd does not mention if those private servers will allow you to invite just your friends into the game (though, we certainly hope you could) so you can ensure you have a strictly cooperative experience and avoid any PvP. It's worth noting that Todd also states in the same interview (starting around the 6:55 minute mark) that they're still balancing that aspect as they "don't want it to be grief-y in any way."
