Grounded Still Exists, Gets Big Update With Mushrooms and Spiders

The 'Doom & Shroom' Update was announced at the Microsoft and Bethesda Games Showcase during E3 2021. The update features:

As things stand, players have grown a bit too confident in their ability to evade attacks from neighboring insect kingdoms, so this month's content update includes a reminder that they're never truly safe. The newly-added bird serves as both a potential foe and a source of ingredients and recipes, and alongside it comes a new perk system offering players a way to customize their characters' core traits. Feel Like A Small Fry With Grounded's New Story Trailer

In the time since Grounded's original announcement during Microsoft's XO19 show, we've had plenty of opportunities to ponder on what exactly you'll be doing in a game-ified version of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Luckily, the newly released story trailer is shedding some much-needed light on the arc Grounded will take, culminating in a potentially surprising reveal. Similar to Drake Hollow, there aren't a ton of details available just yet about this game. Four player co-op (we're presuming online) is confirmed in various marketing materials, but beyond that, the only other info being put out there revolves around the title's ecosystem. Apparently the insect life will behave like real-life insects (e.g., ant colonies send out scouts to find food) and different bugs (spiders) come out at night. The title will initially enter "early access" this Spring as part of the Xbox Game Preview program (and Steam Early Access), so development will be ongoing and incorporate community feedback before it hits a "full release."
