While "Rise of the Phoenix" focused on the X-Men (specifically Gambit, Cable, Phoenix, and Iceman), this forthcoming DLC will bring to the fore everyone's favorite Marvel supergroup not named "The Avengers". If the title is anything to go by, they'll be taking on their perennial foe, Dr. Doom, in one form or another.
]]>The DLC also includes new levels for the "Gauntlet" mode, which was added as part of the previously released "Curse of the Vampire" DLC, and new outfits for different characters. Much like the previous DLC, you'll only be able to get "Rise of the Phoenix" if you purchase the $20 Expansion Pass. On the plus side, you'll not only get this DLC and the "Vampire" DLC, but the Fantastic Four themed "Shadow of Doom" DLC that is set to release sometime Spring 2020.
If you own Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and don't have the Expansion Pass, here's what's been added in the 2.0 update:
The update (version 1.1.0) adds a new Infinity Rift (Phi) that conveniently resembles an "X." The first two challenges you can tackle in this Rift are the ones to unlock Cyclops and Colossus, which are fairly easy and only require a team of characters around level 25 to beat. Both characters start around level 22 and add a few new Team Synergies to the mix (Heavy Metal, All-New X-Men, Sharpshooters, and Team Leaders).
The two new game modes are Gauntlet and Endless. The Gauntlet Mode is co-op focused and allows "up to four players take on an intense series of co-op challenges in rapid succession to earn rewards." The Endless Mode sounds like a kind of friendly competition to see who can last the longest and claim the top spot on an online leaderboard. Personally, I'll be curious to see what level the new characters will be at when they join the roster...
Now, before we go any further, it's important to note that none of these DLC packs may be purchased individually. If you want one, you're going to have to get them all. I'll give you a moment to lament the forces of capitalism.
While the game is slated for a July 2019 release, details as to when the DLC will arrive or which members will be included are sparse. The only detail on the Nintendo listing notes that the first piece of DLC will arrive Fall 2019, though what is included is not featured at all. If you did not have a chance to catch Nintendo’s E3 show you can watch the trailer for the upcoming Marvel game below.
Their big cover story for June is all about The Black Order. While much of their coverage thus far is focused on some character-specific gameplay and the origins of the Ultimate Alliance franchise, Ben Hanson and Ben Reeves did provide some hands-on impressions based on their limited time with the game. It's worth reading through the full piece, but in short, it sounds like if you were a fan of the previous two games (and the X-Men Legends games), Black Order doesn't disappoint. There hasn't been much mentioned about the co-op that we didn't already know (i.e., it supports drop-in/drop-out and couch co-op), but they do briefly talk about a new game mode, "Infinity Trials," that are repeatable missions with some kind of challenge factor (such as beating all enemies within a time limit). These missions reward you with experience and gear for your characters and sound like a good way to progress/farm for gear outside of the campaign.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/16061/new-game-mode-revealed-for-marvel-ultimate-alliance-3.htmlThe title was first revealed a few months back during the 2018 Game Awards. Not much else has been said or shown since then, just another teaser during a February Nintendo Direct that showed off a little of the co-op action. Now, we've got a firm release date in our sights, so all that's left to do is.... wait. Then wait a little more. Then play!
Aside from being the first new Ultimate Alliance game in 10 years, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 also sports some new playable characters not previously featured in the series, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Scarlet Witch. The game is also being released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, which may explain that digital delisting a few months back. Based on what Nintendo is saying, four player drop-in/drop-out campaign co-op will still be a main feature in a variety of configurations (couch, WLAN, online, and combo).
