Nine Parchments Gets An Xbox One Release Date

The game had always been planned for release on Microsoft's home console, but a firm date hadn't yet been announced for the four player co-op title. In it, you take on the role of a student in the Astral Academy, who is tasked with finding the titular parchments in order to graduate. While there may be some shared ideology between the two titles, there's a definite gulf of difference between Nine Parchments and Magicka. The latter was more focused on having players memorize certain key/button combinations in order to make use of their spells and really leaned hard into the chaos that comes with friendly-fire. Nine Parchments, on the other hand, feels more like a twin-stick action RPG. There are a ton of unlockables in the form of purely cosmetic hats and game-affecting staves, and each of the nine playable characters (all but two have to be unlocked) offers something a little different.

Progression System and Other Details Emerge for Nine Parchments

Character skill trees are tuned to the strengths of a particular wizard. For instance, if you're playing Carabel the Glacial, your skill trees will focus around ice spells. The Mechanical Owl enjoys lightning/electricity so much of his tree enhances those spells. While the skill trees may boost certain aspects/attributes of a wizard, all of the wizards will have access to a wide-range of spells across the six different element types (fire, ice, lightning, steam, life, and death). Also, much like Magicka, players can combine spells to create new spells/effects.

Nine Parchments Coming to Nintendo Switch

The Trine developer first announced their new game last August, showing off a lot of magic action that was fairly similar to another co-op title involving wizards and magic. There hasn't been much mention or updates from the studio since then. In fact, this is the first piece of news that we've heard at all after the initial announcement. So while there isn't much else to go on, or even a release date, at least we get to enjoy some nice footage of the game in action.

After viewing the announcement trailer, if you're reminded of a certain other game involving wizards and spells, well, you're not wrong. There are a lot of similarities between that title and this new one; even down to the elements that used to make the spells (Fire, Ice, Life, Death, and Electric). That being said, those games are really fun and I'm all for seeing different takes on it.
