This Week in Co-Op: Finding a Middle Ground in Co-Op

For those of you who know my gaming habits, I tend to gravitate to the style of retro games and will frequently look to replay oldies I've experienced when I was younger. Richie, for the most part, tends to keep his choices more modern and filled with lots of unique game mechanics. Perfect Dark HD seemed to fit the bill for both of us, mainly because it combines many of these two aspects within it; I got my nostalgia and he got his stealth mechanics. While Perfect Dark is a relatively old game, the XBLA version contained an online, 2-player co-op mode that could easily be set up via Xbox LIVE. Most importantly, however, this game provided a unique experience where we both got something out of playing it together. Instead of just playing a co-op game where either of us simply needed a body to play as the co-op partner, we genuinely enjoyed it because it granted us our own gaming fixes equally.

You've Got Crackdown 2 in my Perfect Dark HD

Here's a nice little surprise if you own Perfect Dark HD on Xbox Live Arcade - a Crackdown 2 agent. How do you get him? All you need to do is play the final version of Crackdown 2 and upon firing up Perfect Dark HD the game will detect the save file and unlock "Agent 4."

Perfect Dark XBLA Co-Op Only for Two Players, After All

The Co-Optimus staff doesn't have an overtly reputation for getting too far ahead of ourselves, although on occasion we're known to get excited about something that may have been too good to be true. In this case, we found a video that suggested there would be 8-player co-op in the Perfect Dark Xbox Live Arcade port...it turns out that was the online multiplayer mode. Co-op is still online and offline, but limited to two players in each case.

Microsoft's X10 event is underway, and the first bit of co-op news is confirmed. Perfect Dark HD will launch this coming March as part of a new promotion called the Xbox LIVE Arcade Block Party.

Rumor has it that the hi-def Perfect Dark port headed to the Xbox Live Arcade is almost ready, and should hit virtual shelves in February. Furthermore, the rumor states that a price of 1200 MS Points ($15 USD) has been set.
