Portal Knights Gets Release Date, Coming to Consoles

Our regular Monday night crew played a bit of the game last year when it first hit Steam Early Access and enjoyed some of the ideas/features, like trying to make a house and a garden while fighting off orcs. The limitation on players being able to go off to other worlds separate from their companions was a letdown, but it sounds like developer Keen Games have plans to address that with a future update. They also revealed that they plan on implementing splitscreen functionality to the game, though it's not clear how many players that will support and if it will also support combo co-op.

Portal Knights hit early access this week and so far, things are looking pretty solid. You can create one of three character classes and jump into a randomized world with up to three additional friends. Each level has you collecting pieces to rebuild a portal and progress to the next map. The game features bright and colorful graphics while still having a hint of those Minecraft voxels, with each world featuring a different theme like desert, mines, or lush grass.

Outside of the PR announcement about the game, not too much else is known about the game. It's hard not to draw parallels between games like Minecraft, Starbound, or Terraria based on what's been revealed thus far. Considering 505 is the publisher behind Terraria, those comparisons are undoubtedly apt.
