Risk Of Rain 2 Will Mark Its Official Release With A New Update

The game will hit 1.0 status on August 11th, and to mark such an exciting occasion, developer Hopoo Games will be pushing out a substantial new update giving the game a new survivor, some extra QoL additions, and (gasp) an actual ending. Note that this new status will also bring a slight increase to the game's price point, moving it from $20 to $25. If you're interested in playing post-release, you may want to go ahead and grab a copy or two before that happens.

What did we notice? There's at least two new environments to play around in and a few new enemies. Online performance is more consistent and seemed to perform much better than before. We're all still surprised at how well the Risk of Rain formula has translated into 3D. It just feels like a natural progression of the first title.

Risk of Rain 2's Early Access "Forecast" Looks Good

There are a total of five big updates planned for Risk of Rain 2, each of which will add some new things to the game, such as new playable characters (Survivors), new bosses, new levels, and new items. Of note, though, we won't be seeing the full/complete ending until version 1.0 hits next year when the final stage and boss are added; the game is kind of endless right now. When Risk of Rain 2 does hit 1.0, though, it will have the "10 characters, 10 stages, 12 bosses, and over 100 items" that was promised when it was fully announced/revealed during PAX East.

If you didn't play the first Risk of Rain (and if you're a fan of rogue-likes and action-platformers, you really should), here's a quick breakdown of the gameplay. After selecting a character (there's only one to start and others are unlocked via certain in-game achievements) and an overall difficulty level, you'll start off in a world with the sole objective of finding the teleporter that will take you to the next world. You can try and track it down right away, or spend a little bit of time killing foes to earn gold that will let you open the chests that are scattered all about. These chests contain power-ups (such as faster attack speed, faster health regen outside of combat, causing enemies to bleed on hit, etc.) that will help you make it through. Getting repeats of a power-up is useful as it increases the effectiveness of it, i.e., your attack speed will get faster with multiples of that power-up. You'll always need a few power-ups before activating the teleporter as once you do, things go off. Not only will you have to stand within a sphere for a set amount of time in order to charge the teleporter, you'll also have to contend with way more enemies and a boss that you have to kill. Rinse and repeat this process for each world until you can find your way to the end.
