River City Girls takes place in a version of the River City Ransom/Kunio-kun universe. When the game begins, Kyoko and Misako, the girlfriends of Kunio and Riki, learn that their boyfriends have been kidnapped. The two teens set out to rescue their boyfriends and kick lots of thug and gangster butt. Along the way, they'll level up, earn money, and buy lots of items and upgrades from a variety of charming shopkeepers. It's everything you love about River City Ransom, but with a gorgeous art style and even more humor. See our co-op review for more details.
]]>First released on consoles and PC in 2019, River City Girls is an action RPG/beat ‘em up in the style of the original River City Ransom. The game stars Misako and Kyoko, the girlfriends of the RCR protagonists, Kunio and Riki. When Kunio and Riki get kidnapped, the girls bust out of detention and set out to rescue their loves. Along the way, they'll battle hordes of thugs and unique bosses, buy loads of upgrades, and wield plenty of dangerous weapons - just like in the original game. It's easily one of the deepest and most enjoyable beat 'em ups in recent years.

Not a ton of details provided just yet, but the game will support two player couch co-op across six "large city regions" in the campaign, and there will be plenty of shops to find, items to purchase, experience to gain, and "an arsenal of combos, counters, throws, and special attacks."
