Play Sanctum 2 for Free This Weekend

Coffee Stain Studios' first person shooter / tower defense hybrid Sanctum 2 is free to play on Steam this weekend, starting from the moment you open your client and lasting until Sunday at 1 p.m. PST. That's not an enormous amount of time, but if you've ever been curious about the game or the series, this weekend is your chance to see what all the fuss is about.

Third DLC for Sanctum 2 Releases October 25

The Pursuit picks up where the second DLC, Ruins of Brightholme, left off, sending players off in pursuit of a major enemy. Since hunting is only fun when you've got really cool shooty things, the DLC adds plenty of firepower for you to bring into battle. The Drone Launcher and Grenade Launcher are two new weapons that fires groups of aerial drones and clusters of grenades respectively. Sounds perfect for taking out smaller enemies, but our guess is the big guy won't like it all that much, either.

Sanctum 2 Gets Second DLC Expansion

The Ruins of Brightholme DLC contains a lot of new content. We put "lot" in italics so you know we mean it. It takes place in The Slums of Brightholme where the inhabitants have learned to make do with weapons and tools provided by the world around them to fight off attacking aliens. You'll do the same, picking up things like a Nail Gun and Circle Saw to really get in there to do some damage. It's a lot more visceral than standing on a platform halfway across the map and sniping an alien in its big bright weak spot.

Sanctum 2 Coming to PlayStation Network September 10

The PSN version of Sanctum 2 will include the recent patch that fixed several issues and addressed concerns many players expressed about co-op play. Our Sanctum 2 review highlights some of those problems, but as per usual, Coffee Stain was on the ball and set things right as quickly as we could hit the "update article" button. No word yet on when/if the PSN release will receive any of the four planned pieces of DLC. The first expansion, Road to Elysion, was released some weeks ago for PC, but there were some delays associated with the console release.

Sanctum 2 DLC Road to Elysion Will Eventually See XBLA Release

It's only been a few months since its release, but the tower defense first person shooter hybrid Sanctum 2 is still going strong. The new DLC Road to Elysion brings a handful of new maps, weapons, towers, and enemies to the mix, with three other DLC releases planned for the future. PC owners have had access for a few weeks now, but due to complications with Microsoft's submission process the XBLA release has been delayed until the end of the year. Sadness.

Sanctum 2 Gets Another Huge Update

Well wouldn't you know it, Sanctum 2 just keeps getting better and better. A brand new patch was recently released for the tower defense/first person shooter hybrid, making a few significant changes to how resources are handled along with a handful of minor tweaks. Tower upgrades were also fiddled with, and swarm enemies have been made even swarmier. Should be a blast!

Sanctum 2 Update Changes Co-Op Resource Sharing

Sanctum 2 was unleashed to the world last week, and our co-op review spills the details from beginning to end. It wasn't quite the experience we were expecting to follow the original Sanctum, as the sequel focuses on action and combat, leaving out a lot of the finer bits of strategy. We also weren't too keen on the "one player gets the resources" element of co-op mode, which often turned great rounds of team-based alien fighting into "NO FAIR MY TURN".

Sanctum 2 Released with Tasty Launch Trailer

Sanctum 2 is out! The sequel to the 2011 tower defense/first person shooter hybrid has finally hit, and developer Coffee Stain Studios is celebrating with a nice little launch trailer. The video manages to capture the game's intense action quite well, showing off a lot of gameplay footage complete with guns, explosions, towers doing their shooty things, and enemies bursting into brightly colored goo. Delicious.

Sanctum 2 Release Dated: May 15th

Sanctum 2, the sequel to the two-year-old tower defense/FPS crossover Sanctum, now has a release date. In just a week's time (May 15th), Sanctum 2 will be storming onto XBLA and PC for your alien-killing, laser-firing, core-defending pleasure. It should be released on PSN shortly thereafter, but the exact date is currently unspecified.

Sanctum 2 continues to casually stroll to its release date this summer. To keep us psyched, developer Coffee Stain Studios has released a new batch of screenshots showcasing the game's gorgeous art style along with some exotic locations and a few in-game action shots. It's a bright and shiny futuristic sci-fi world, all splattered with alien bug guts.

Sanctum 2 Trailer Features Gameplay Footage

Well that was quick. Just a few weeks ago, Coffee Stain Studios released a tiny little teaser getting us ready for the tower defense/first person shooter hybrid Sanctum 2. Now, real and actual gameplay footage has been released! The trailer has about, oh, 60 seconds of in-game stuff going on, with plenty of dramatic shots showing you just how screwed you'll be if you stop placing defense towers or running around shooting swamp creatures with your customizable guns.

The tower defense/FPS hybrid Sanctum turned more than a few heads when it was released in 2011. It got enough attention that developer Coffee Stain Studios announced a sequel the very next year and has been hard at work ever since, building the game's engine anew and incorporating loads of player feedback. Now, Sanctum 2 is being teased out in small doses, and the first delivery includes just enough eye candy to get our attention.
