Much like it's cousin game, Disney Infinity, Skylanders has a feature where, in order to unlock certain sections of the game, character specific elemental groups must be used (Water, Fire, Air, Earth, etc.) to unlock gates of the same elemental type. Up until now, the only way to beat Swap Force levels 100% (which include ranks enhancing rewards and other secret item/areas) was to play with a co-op partner on hand utilizing multiple characters together. In single player, this was impossible, even with the new Swap Force feature of exchanging character tops or bottoms to gain special abilities. There are even gates that require dual-element combinations to be unlocked that made things even more difficult.

The Skylanders SWAP Force Wii U bundle is set to launch November 15 for $299.99. Do your best not to think of it as a PS4 competitor, even though the release dates happen to be the same. In addition to the standard copy of Nintendo Land and some physical extras, the bundle packs three action figures to scan into the game and swap around: Ninja Stealth Elf, Blast-Zone, and a color-shifted Washbuckler. The starter pack would cost around $75 on its own, so it actually is a bit of a deal, all things considered.

The new trailer for SWAP Force is one of those talking head jobs where the development team explain to you what the swapping mechanic brings to the game. Blah, blah, blah, but keep watching and you will see several of the new creatures that you can create in gameplay action.
The screenshots don't just show off pretty graphics, but show off some of the new Skylanders available - Boom Jet, Grilla Drilla, Slobber Tooth and Zoo Lou. Boom Jet and Grilla Drilla are new SWAP Force Skylanders, while Slobber Tooth and Zoo Lou are new core Skylanders for Skylanders SWAP Force.
Skylanders was a game that surprised a lot of folks when it was unveiled at E3 two years ago. I can remember seeing the little figures come to life in a back room at the Activision booth and immediately thinking to myself, ok, this thing is going to catch on. We're now a few games and 50 some characters later and Skylanders is getting what might be the biggest change to the series yet. Skylanders Swap Force is the first game that looks, feels, and plays next-gen.

As probably everyone expected, Activision officially confirmed today that Skylanders SWAP Force is in development for the next-gen consoles (namely the PS4 and Xbox One). This is in addition to the already announced versions for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. Get ready to hide the wallet from the kids if you own pretty much any relatively modern console whatsoever.

The upcoming Skylanders SWAP Force has a host of new improvements and additions to the previous two titles. Players will be able to create 256 different character combinations from the 16 new bifurcated figures. There will also be 16 new Skylanders, eight LightCore Skylanders, and 16 returning Skylanders. There's also the ground breaking new gameplay function that allows characters to jump! Seriously. If you've played the game you know how big of a deal this is.
