I just want to know if we can get in those mechanicus and wreak some havoc.
]]>If you remember looking at/checking out Space Hulk: Deathwing back in 2016 when it was first release on PC, here's a quick recap of the big changes/updates to this version:
When I reviewed the game back in 2016, there were definitely elements that I enjoyed and felt Streum On Studio got right. There was, however, a lot of room for improvement. The developer felt the same way, apparently, as they continued to provide updates and new content for the PC version over the next several months (some of which we saw when we played the game last July). All of those updates will be included in the "Enhanced Edition" coming to both the PC and PlayStation 4 on May 22. That means if you pick up the game on that date, you'll get these features that weren't part of the title (or were mere shadows of what they are now) when it was initially released:
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/15526/enhanced-edition-of-space-hulk-deathwing-arriving-may-22nd.htmlThe Interrogator Chaplain is the sixth playable class in the co-op mode and brings some (IMO) needed support skills for your Terminator squad, including an instant revive for any downed teammates, temporary invulnerability, and a way to temporarily reflect damage back at your attackers. Two new weapons, the melee-focused Purgatory sword and the ranged Stormbolter MK2, have been added as well. Along with these additions, some graphic tweaks and reworks have made the whole experience a lot smoother. Did I mention all of this is free if you own the game?
The game has received a consistent series of updates since its release last December and the latest patch adds new abilities on top of other great additions like randomized levels and tweaked enemies. The game is also coming out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this Fall.
There have been a few updates to the title over the past few months, many of which have focused on improving the overall stability of the game, but the latest one is pretty significant as it introduces a new way to play the title in co-op, and also lays out some future features. The big addition in this update is the "Special Mission," a new map you can choose within the Multiplayer setup. This map generates a randomized sequence of missions to complete using the level layout of an existing chapter, i.e., you'll still be on the same map as Chapter 1 of the game, but you won't be following the same mission objectives as before. At the moment, there's only one of these Special Mission maps available, but the development team plans on expanding that, eventually, to all nine chapters. That would go along way towards making the co-op portion of the game a whole lot more fun and worth replaying with a group of friends.
In the statement from the website, “We’d like to thank our dedicated community, whose feedback has been incredibly helpful in our ongoing mission to bring continuous improvements and updates to Space Hulk: Deathwing,” says Pierrick Le Nestour, co-owner at Streum On Studio. “There are still many more exciting things to come, as we’ll be supporting our game with free content updates throughout the year.”.
Originally, the title was slated for a PC release this week (December 9, to be exact), but now it won't be out until next Thursday, December 14. Given a choice between this and some kind of "Day One" patch to address those issues, I'd rather the game be delayed. Here's what the dev had to say about pushing this back:
The game's new trailer features some of the fancy melee weapons and boomsticks that'll be at your disposal along with your fellow marines. Also on display are the Genestealers, a hostile alien species that you and your team will be battling time and time again throughout your perilous journey. Warning: this footage contains flamethrowers, thunder hammers, plasma cannons, explosions, and the death and dismemberment of countless alien bad guys. Viewer discretion is advised.
First up is the Librarian, the psyker (or mage) of the Space Marines, who wields a Storm Bolter and deadly psychic powers. Supporting the Librarian is the Apothecary, a specialist who possesses biomedical and scientific training in order to tend to the squad's wounds. Of course you'll need some firepower to back them up, so there's a heavy weapon support and tactician specialist as well. The heavy weapon support wields an assault cannon to take out the Genestealer threat, and the tactician is able to provide passive buffs to the whole squad in order to boost their abilities. Each class will gain new skills and abilities as you earn experience during missions, allowing you to further customize your preferred Terminator.
