War has been glorified in videogame form since the days of Wolfenstein, perhaps though no game has brought it more mainstream than Call of Duty 2 did during the beginning of this console’s life cycle. Still despite the horror that truly exists on the battlefield, very few games have attempted the emotional toll it takes upon a soldier, instead choosing to make players into a one man army capable of saving the world most of the time. Spec Ops: The Line is doing things a bit differently.

Spec-Ops: The Line Co-Op Challenge Mode Now Available

It's been almost two months since Spec Ops: The Line was released and finally we have the game's promised free co-op content. Called the "Co-Op Challenge Mode," two players can cooperative online through four different maps each with varying objectives. In one you'll need to disable a series of communication towers scattered across the ship graveyard, another has you fighting off waves of enemies while you try to make your escape to a helicopter.

Spec-Ops: The Line Co-Op DLC Should Be Available by August

Spec-Ops: The Line is out now on the 360, PS3 and PC - but it's still missing a piece that Co-Optimus readers would be most interested in - namely the co-op mode. At E3 2012 we went hands on with it and were quite impressed with what was on display - a gritty, difficult, and tight co-op experience for two players to work through. We were told the content would be available shortly after launch and today 2K Games have put that time frame into perspective.

It was only recently that we found out Spec Ops: The Line would feature a 2 player online cooperative mode. While the game won't launch with with the mode present, it will be available shortly after launch with four maps as a free piece of content. We went hands on with the mode at E3 2012 and came away pretty impressed with what it offers.

Co-Op Returns to Spec-Ops: The Line

It seems Spec-Ops: The Line is having a hard time trying to decide if it wants to be with the blond co-op in the class. She's nice and all, but their relationship is on again, off again more often than a shoddy wi-fi connection at an E3 press conference. 2K Games have announced that Spec-Ops the line has re-added a co-op mode, this time in the form of free DLC which will be released shortly after the game.

The desert is a desolate place (funny that) where people traditionally scrap a living from the few pockets of survivable habitat. That's unless you decide to build a giant city in the middle of it like Dubai. Spec Ops: The Line paints a 'what if' scenario where Dubai has been almost destroyed by a huge sand storm and troops have moved in for a tense stand off. New screens have arrived that suggest the game will be very moody - and very sandy.

The new trailer for Spec Ops: The Line is intriguing to say the least. It looks as if this will be more than just a simple military shooter. After a natural disaster eradicates Dubai your team is tasked with tracking down the US Army's 33rd Infantry. The 33rd was believed to be KIA until the outside world received a weak distress signal. Oh, yeah, they were led by a Colonel named John Konrad. Get it? No? Then read a book.

Spec Ops: The Line, Comes In From the Cold

If Spec Ops: The Line was a person, it would be a soldier stuck in enemy territory. We had hands on time with the game in 2010, but since then it has been held back until 2013. Like any good soldier, it refused to quit and worked its way home to us (I made some pie). Now 2K Games are promising more information in the coming weeks. Up first is a brand spanking new image and the promise of a trailer next week.

We haven't seen much on Spec Ops: The Line in a long time. From a coverage standpoint, it's been absent since last year's E3, although I was able to get my hands on the multiplayer beta during the second half of 2010. The controls were tight and the gameplay was fun, but overall the game didn't quite measure up to the current swath of cover-based shooters. At best it was destined to be a niche game.

E3 2010 - Spec Ops: The Line Hands Off Preview

One game I was really excited to see in action at E3 was Spec Ops: The Line. Published by 2K Games and developed by Yager Interactive, the setting and visuals have gripped me since the first teaser trailer. The setting of the game is in the destroyed city of Dubai, which has been ravaged by a vicious sand storm burying most of it's structures. We sat in on a demo of the game, in what looked like one of these buried buildings, at the recent E3 expo.

Spec Ops: The Line actually debuted back during the Spike VGA awards this year. The trailer was beautiful, violent, and powerful. Immediately after watching it I said to myself, "this game better have co-op." Now weeks later it looks like that's been answer via a Eurogamer preview of the game.
